Message from Director of Clinical Service Development

Elizabeth Murphy, MD, SFHM

Dr. Elizabeth Murphy, MD, SFHM, is an Assistant Professor in the Section of Hospital Medicine and Director of Clinical Service Development for the Section. A key responsibility of this role is to develop and mentor section clinical service leaders. The leaders are mentored in strengthening relationships with their teams and collaborating providers, standardizing onboarding and service-specific operations, implementing specific improvement projects with measurable results and creating academic output from their work. She helps service leaders integrate service-specific knowledge and skill-building into general hospitalist orientation and onboarding, the section’s robust CME program and clinical and medical education mentorship programs for junior faculty. She champions clinical excellence for the section by coaching service leaders through the case review process, performing mortality review for the Department of Medicine, facilitating Morbidity and Mortality conference for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and representing the section at root cause analyses, Dr. Cart debriefs and the Department of Medicine Quality Improvement Committee.Dr. Murphy facilitates the growth of leadership skills and ongoing professional development across the section and engages with this work on a national level through the Society of Hospital Medicine Academic Hospitalist Committee, the Society of General Internal Medicine Academic Hospitalist Commission and her leadership in the Society of Hospital Medicine Longitudinal Mentoring Program.
